DEADLINE: JUNE 30, 2028
The OAA Continuing Education (ConEd) Program reflects the OAA’s dedication to promoting and increasing the knowledge, skill, and proficiency of its members, and administering the Architects Act in order to serve and protect the public interest. It is established in Regulation 27 (the regulations) under the Architects Act. Mandatory for OAA members, it is based on a two-year cycle, beginning on July 1 of even-numbered years. The current ConEd cycle runs from July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2028.
A member shall, in each cycle, complete the following number of learning hours:
- in the case of a holder of a licence (i.e. Architect), 70 learning hours that meet the requirements of the program specified for holders of a licence;
- in the case of a holder of a limited licence (i.e. Licensed Technologist), 35 learning hours that meet the requirements of the program specified for holders of a limited licence; and
- in the case of a member designated as a Non-Practising member, 35 learning hours that meet the requirements of the program specified for such members.
The program requires members to record a minimum number of hours of Structured Learning, with the remainder being Unstructured Learning. OAA Council also approved a mandatory requirement for a minimum of two learning hours of accredited programming focused on Climate Action. To learn more, click here.
Read the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page for more on the current cycle.
As of May 21, 2024, OAA Council voted to revise the administrative fees
for OAA members who do not complete their mandatory Continuing Education
hours or record them in the OAA’s online transcript before the end of
the cycle. The single fee of $750 replaces the previous two-tiered fine
structure (where first-time non-compliance and subsequent late times
were $500 and $1000, respectively).
As of the 2024–26 reporting cycle, members are no longer required to upload proof of successful completion of a learning activity for Structured Learning Hours for learning activities outside the OAA. However, during the reporting cycle, and up to six months thereafter, the OAA may require a member to provide documents about the member’s completion of the learning hours as part of an audit. OAA ConEd Learning Hours Surplus
An individual who has attended and recorded continuing education activities and accumulated a surplus of learning hours is permitted to carry over 10 Structured and 20 Unstructured Learning hours to the next reporting cycle.
NOTE: Responding to a complaint or attendance at a disciplinary matter as a respondent will not be accepted as either Structured or Unstructured Learning. It is your responsibility to ensure that any learning activities conform to the OAA’s mandatory Continuing Education Program.
