Becoming a Licensed Technologist

OAA Technology Program

The OAA Technology Program (OTP) is the internship program to become a Licensed Technologist. The first step in your journey is to apply! To qualify to join the program, an individual must:

• be a graduate of an Ontario community college three-year program with an advanced diploma in architectural technology or graduated from a three-year college architectural technology program accredited by Technology Accreditation Canada (TAC);
  
• be a person of good character;
  
• submit a completed OAA Technology Program application; and
  
• pay the required fee.

The next steps in your journey as an Intern Technologist are:

• Document at least 5,580 hours working in an appropriate architectural setting under the personal supervision and direction of a person authorized to practise architecture in the jurisdiction where the experience is being gained. Intern Technologists must work on a variety of tasks and on at least three different building occupancy types. Intern Technologists are required to have a Supervising Professional and Mentor throughout the duration of the OAA Technology Program;
  
• complete the experience assessment;
  
• complete the OAA Admission Course; and
  
• pass the Licensed Technologist examination.

When all these steps are completed successfully, you may apply for a limited licence as a Licensed Technologist.
