Executive Services

The OAA’s Executive Management Team provides organizational oversight and ensures the effective delivery of the Association’s regulatory functions in the public interest. The team leads strategic initiatives and collaborates closely with the OAA Council and its advisory groups to administer provincial legislation and implement related policies.

Office of the Registrar

Led by Registrar Christie Mills, the Office of the Registrar oversees the central regulatory functions of the Association, including the registration processes for members and practices, as well as those seeking to resign or modify their status. The department administers compliance with legislative requirements, manages the OAA’s licensing programs, operates the Continuing Education Program, and supports the development and implementation of regulatory policies. Additionally, the Office of the Registrar is responsible for maintaining accurate records, coordinating member renewals, and providing guidance on licensing pathways and professional obligations.

Operations

The Operations team at the OAA is responsible for managing the organization's facilities, administrative resources, and systems. This includes accessibility, human rights, privacy, and employment matters, as well as overseeing office operations, ensuring the smooth functioning of the OAA Headquarters, and supporting the organization's administrative needs.

Education & Development

Working as part of the Office of the Registrar, the Education & Development team manages all professional development initiatives and educational strategies at the Association, including oversight of the Continuing Education Program. The department develops and delivers learning opportunities for members, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. It also supports the development of educational resources and tools, enhances member skills and competencies, and promotes lifelong learning within the architecture profession.

Practice Advisory Services

The OAA’s Practice Advisory Services (PAS) connects the public and the profession with expert guidance from practicing and retired architects. Its services include managing the OAA Practice Hotline, developing and maintaining “best practice” resources (such as OAA Contracts, Practice Tips, and joint documents with industry stakeholders), administering the CSA Standards Access Program, consulting on Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and Supplementary Conditions, producing a bimonthly Practice Advisory e-newsletter, overseeing Practice Consultation Services, and leading special projects, including public consultations on building code and other legislative changes that could impact practices.

Policy & Government Relations

The Policy and Government Relations (PGR) service area of the OAA supports the Association by monitoring legislation, advancing policy reforms, and fostering collaboration with government bodies—learn more in the GR Portal. Key responsibilities include addressing building code harmonization, supporting compliance with regulations, and advocating for legislative changes to enhance housing supply, architectural practice, and climate action.

Communications

The OAA Communications team works closely with other staff departments on all communication with internal and external audiences, including members, those who hold status with the Association, and the public. The team’s responsibilities include public outreach, graphic design, media relations, awards programs and publications, social media, e-newsletters, information-sharing, events, and the OAA Website.

Finance

The Finance office plays a critical role in ensuring the Association’s financial health. The department’s responsibilities include financial management, budgeting, resource allocation, and compliance with financial regulatory requirements and standards. In addition to coordinating fees and renewals, it oversees the management of funds, provides strategic financial planning, ensures transparency in reporting, School of Architecture scholarship & Guild Prize funds, and oversees OAA Conference registration.

Information Services

The Information Services department ensures the OAA’s technological framework operates efficiently and securely. Responsibilities include IT infrastructure maintenance, technical support, data analysis, cybersecurity, and improving digital tools. By facilitating reliable systems and protecting digital assets, the department supports the Association’s mission and enhances its ability to deliver value to staff, members, and stakeholders.

This policy allows our employees to disconnect from work fully after the expected work time. Please note that OAA staff generally work between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm, engaging in work-related communications between these hours.
