Ontario Association of Architects Launches Podcast Series for the Public, Architecturally Speaking

Toronto, ON – Today, the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA), regulator of the architecture profession in the public interest, launches a new podcast that aims to bring the built environment closer to the general public and demystify the world of architecture.

Hosted by architect Ryan Schwartz, Architecturally Speaking explores the design and construction of various structures, from small homes to towering skyscrapers, while discussing how the built environment intersects with today’s pressing issues like climate change and housing. Through engaging interviews and insightful discussions, listeners will gain an inside look into the world of architecture that's often hidden away from public view.

After a teaser shared last month, two episodes drop today with subsequent episodes appearing monthly. The inaugural episode, "Sustainable Architecture: Insights & Tips for Greener Homes," spotlights BDP Quadrangle architect Karl Van Es and the pivotal role sustainable design plays in helping us take climate action. The episode simplifies complex technical terms like embodied carbon, LEED, Passive House systems, and the use of renewable resources in construction, making them accessible for the general public.

Following this, "Becoming an Architect – Many Paths, One Profession," shares the personal journeys toward licensure of newly licensed architects Vineetha Sivathasan and Joël León, offering invaluable insights for those considering a career in the field.
Future episodes will cover a range of topics including innovative housing alternatives, accessibility in architecture, and designing for dignity in long-term care facilities.

“The Ontario Association of Architects is excited to usher in a new era of engagement with the launch of our podcast, Architecturally Speaking,” says Settimo Vilardi, a Windsor architect and the president of the OAA’s governing Council. “This podcast is designed to broaden the public’s understanding of architecture, providing clear and insightful content for both professionals and those with a budding interest in the field. Our goal is to foster informed discussions about the pivotal role architecture plays in addressing today's societal challenges.”

Produced by the OAA in concert with For the Record Productions’ Peter Reynolds, Architecturally Speaking provides a unique platform for both aspiring architects and those interested in the built environment. Tune in for a unique opportunity to understand and appreciate the architectural landscape that shapes our daily lives.

Architecturally Speaking is accessible on all major podcast platforms, including Buzzsprout, YouTube, Spotify, Amazon, Apple, or wherever you get your podcasts from.
