In light of current trends in client and code requirements, there is increased focus on the durability of buildings. The marketplace has seen increased demand to improve the long-term performance of buildings and infrastructure, while reducing maintenance costs, through the use of more durable and maintainable construction materials and assemblies.
With this in mind, the OAA suggests members review, and become more familiar with, the following CSA documents:
• CSA S478:19, Durability in Buildings (as referenced in the National Building Code), and
• CSA S478:95, Guideline on Durability in Buildings (as referenced in the Ontario Building Code)
These documents can be accessed for free by OAA licensed members who register for the OAA’s Standards Access Program. This program offers viewing access to all CSA documents referenced in the National Building Code and the Ontario Building Code.
The OAA negotiated viewing access to all CSA documents referenced in the National and Ontario building codes through CSA OnDemand. CSA standards are important reference tools to ensure design and construction meet building code requirements. In upholding its responsibility to serve the public interest, the OAA provides access to these pertinent documents to ensure prohibitive costs are not a barrier to access.
