New Tool to Calculate TEUI and TEDI, Support Awards Submissions
The climate change emergency's far-reaching effects have positioned it as one of the defining global challenges today. The OAA remain committed to ensuring its members have the education and resources needed to incorporate climate-stable design approaches in both new construction and renovation.
Building on the success of the TEUI Calculator, the Association recently launched TEUI 2.0—you can learn more about both these resources on the OAA Website. The newer tool calculates the Total Energy Use Intensity (TEUI) and Thermal Energy Demand Intensity (TEDI) of a building or home. Intended for Part 3 buildings, it offers intuitive drop-down menus for classification, area, compliance standards, and tiered code options.
Work continues on TEUI 2.0, including an update on plug loads. The image below provides a roadmap of improvements in the works—everything in red is new or more advanced features—and the team behind the tool are also awaiting official inclusion of Cooling Degree Days in the National Building Code of Canada and Ontario Building Code.
Further, the OAA Design Excellence Awards requires TEUI metrics for eligibility, and these calculators make it easy to include the data.
