OAA Supports Preservation of Ottawa’s Alexandra Bridge

Following a request by a member and a motion by Council, OAA President Susan Speigel wrote to the Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of Public Service and Procurement Canada, to express support for the preservation of the Alexandra Bridge, which spans the Ottawa River from Nepean Point in Ottawa to the Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau.

The OAA also adds its name to the Alexandra Bridge Coalition.

“Our understanding is the federal government is considering the demolition of the Alexandra Bridge under the rationale that it no longer efficiently sustains vehicular traffic and requires ongoing maintenance. Given the bridge’s national built-heritage value and its role in supporting pedestrians and cyclists, we urge you to consider an approach that ensures its renewal for continued use.”
