Laurentian University has unveiled the Institute for Northern Housing Innovation, a groundbreaking initiative housed within the McEwen School of Architecture. With $512,544 in funding from Ontario’s Ministry of Colleges, Universities, Research Excellence and Security, the Institute will tackle Northern Ontario’s housing challenges by advancing sustainable, affordable solutions.
Focusing on innovative construction methods, bio-based materials, and economic models, the Institute will collaborate with communities, industry, and policymakers to address housing needs, particularly in northern, Indigenous, and Francophone communities.
The Institute aims to transform housing accessibility and sustainability while fostering student leadership and community well-being.
