The
Canadian Association of Heritage Professionals (CAHP), which supports qualified heritage professionals and establishes conservation standards, has recognized
Christopher Borgal with the 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing his decades-long contributions to heritage conservation throughout Canada.
Borgal, president and senior principal of
GBCA – Goldsmith Borgal & Company Architects, has dedicated nearly 50 years to preserving heritage sites. His extensive experience spans more than 2,000 heritage projects throughout Canada, the U.S., and the Caribbean, with a concentrated focus in Southwestern Ontario, namely Toronto and Ottawa.
Among his significant achievements are the 1990’s restoration of Parliament Hill’s Centre Block in Ottawa, and the Massey Music Hall Revitalization Project in Toronto. Borgal's commitment to heritage restoration extends to volunteer work in smaller communities, including helping the Town of Goderich after a tornado, and developing the Blyth Festival Theatre in the 1980s. In collaboration with his late business partner, Nicholas Hill, Borgal was instrumental in preparing some of the earliest Ontario Heritage Conservation District Plans in the late 1970s, highlighting his significant impact and leadership in heritage conservation.
Following his tenure as national president of CAHP, Borgal continues to play a pivotal role in Canada's heritage community, leading the 18-member team at GBCA in Toronto.
