Have you ever wondered about the process that brings a green roof to life? Are you interested in learning more about it from experts in the fields of sustainable building and native plants while building your own one square-foot green roof to take home?
Then join Jeremy Wright and Jordan Hofstra from ZinCo Canada, and Jonas Spring from Ecoman at the Toronto Plant Market for this immersive workshop.
The day will include a “ground up,” build of your own tiny green roof, great snacks, and a range of conversations around sustainable building and horticulture.
Subjects covered, but not limited to, will be roofing membranes, growing media, soil science and native plants that are best suited for these extreme environments. We will also cover best practices, technical considerations, maintenance and monitoring strategies for green roofs both large and small.
Integrating resilient plants into our urban environment plays a critical role in cooling city temperatures, improving air quality, and energy efficiency in our buildings. More green space also has a positive impact on our individual and collective mental health plus creates vital space and food for pollinators. Social times with other plant people and sculptural objects to take home are pretty great too.
This is a paid workshop. The $65 fee will cover the cost of materials to build and plant your little roof.
