For 23 years the Canadian Design-Build Institute (CDBI) has been a forerunner of design-build practices and project delivery. We invite you to join us this June for a series of virtual sessions highlighting the progress of design-build methods and best practices in the industry. From 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. (ET) on June 22, 25 and 29, registrants can expect compelling speakers and exciting discussions on a variety of design-build topics.

CDBI will share its opening day on June 22 with the Lean Construction Institute of Canada (LCIC), featuring keynote speakers Geoff Neumayr and Bill Black. Geoff Neumayr, CDO for the San Francisco International Airport Planning, Design & Construction Division and Chair of the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA), will give a presentation comparing progressive design-build and integrated project delivery. Following him is Bill Black, Chief Operating Officer of the Calgary Construction Association, returning to give a “where are we now?” follow-up presentation to his well-received keynote at the inaugural LCIC conference in 2016.

The sessions on June 25 will highlight the increasing popularity and success of progressive design-build in Canada. You will learn how to make your project a success using progressive design-build, as well as what to consider in your checklist to avoid any mishaps. The day will end with a panel of Canadian Construction Documents Committee (CCDC) members educating delegates on what contracts can be applied to your next progressive design-build project.

CDBI recently published a new document, Trade Contractors Guide, addressing the trade contractors’ roles and responsibilities to ensure a successful project outcome. The final day of sessions will give registrants a chance to hear the important recommendations made in this guide. The day closes with a panel of private and public owners experienced in design-build discussing how they measure project success in order to help others do the same.
