Plenary Encouraged Us to Rethink Long Term Care
The Designing for Dignity Conference Plenary session, “(Un)Exposed: Co-Creating New Models for Care, Community, Wellness, and Dignity,” addressed the pressing need for change in congregate care settings following the COVID-19 pandemic. Hosted by architect Ryan Schwartz, the session brought together Dr. Terri Peters, Dr. Tamara Daly, Mike Ladyk, and Nicole Peirce in a thoughtful conversation on redefining long-term care and empowering architectural solutions.
The event, which also included a graphic recorder (see image below) explored critical questions surrounding the implementation of best practices in long-term care, the profession's role in driving that change, and the potential for alternative care models. Additionally, it examined the intersection of long-term care decisions with issues such as housing affordability, aging in place, equity, diversity, and inclusion, and climate action.
