Session Abstract:
UN’s Ecosystem Assessment report recommended buildings to provide ecosystem services to allow the damaged ecosystem functions to regenerate. This seminar examines how buildings can be designed to function like trees to replenish ecosystem services and mitigate carbon.

About the speaker:
Phil Fung is a Consulting Engineer in Ontario, Canada. Phil holds several professional designations including LEED AP, Certified Energy Manager, Living Future Accreditation, and Certified Building Commissioning Professional. His areas of expertise are energy efficient and sustainable buildings design, nature-inspired regenerative buildings design, and energy modelling. Starting his career as a robotics engineer, Phil founded SRS Consulting Engineers in 1999. In 2012, Phil accepted the part-time professorship at Humber College. Phil's overarching design principle is "Let's Build Trees,“ a model for buildings to provide ecosystem services. In 2023, Phil's Zero Energy Food Shed was placed second in the Professional Engineers Ontario York Chapter Research Project of the Year Award.
