TIME: 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM
Session Abstract:
Society is becoming much more aware of the barriers that currently exist in our infrastructure. To ensure that our buildings are accessible and inclusive to all, the Ontario Building Code prescribes minimum requirements for ensuring access.
In this session, you will learn how to navigate the accessibility requirements of the Ontario Building Code and become familiar with how to apply these requirements to both existing and proposed buildings. This session will also inform participants of other legislation, standards and guidelines that can be used to provide a more inclusive environment.
Learning Outcomes:
1. Understand the minimum OBC requirements for designing for barrier-free access,
2. Determine how to apply barrier-free requirements to existing buildings,
3. Understand your obligations with respect to other legislation, standards and guidelines,
4. Establish good practice criteria for future designs
