At the 2023
Annual General Meeting (AGM), held virtually on May 3, the Association honoured its newest Members of Long Standing—individuals who have reached the milestone of 50 years of membership with the OAA as part of Ontario’s architecture profession. Among recipients this year was Mykola Wasylko.
Mykola graduated from the University of Toronto with an Honours Bachelor of Architecture degree in 1969. Upon graduation, he was offered a permanent position at Ronald Murphy Architect in London, Ontario, where he contributed to various projects for the University of Western Ontario.
Mykola joined Matthews Group, a prominent London, Ontario-based land developer, in 1972. The following year, he obtained his licence and embarked on his independent architectural practice, seizing an opportunity offered by Don Smith of Ellis-Don to design a new office complex. In 1979, Mykola formed Breivik Scorgie Wasylko Architects Inc. in collaboration with two fellow London architects. For 19 years, the firm played an active role in designing numerous buildings across Southwestern Ontario. In 2002, Mykola resumed his position as the sole principal of the firm.
Mykola has been a member of RAIC since 1973. He continues to engage in a diverse range of institutional and commercial projects and has enjoyed working with his sons at his firm over the past few decades.
