The OAA’s Practice Advisory Services was recently alerted by the membership about a labour dispute that impacted a building department. This resulted in messaging from Authority Having Jurisdictions (AHJs) recommending that Architects provide detailed inspections reports.

Practices are reminded that when contracted to provide General Review services, this should not be mistaken for “site inspections.” General Review involves overseeing the project’s general conformity with design documents, while site inspections are strictly the responsibility of building officials, who ensure compliance with the Building Code Act.

Pro-Demnity Insurance Company, which provides liability insurance for OAA certificates of practice (CoPs), was also informed of the above-noted labour dispute and has released a statement on its website.
