In 2022, the OAA announced an updated version of its downloadable suite of FREE standardized contracts for both members and the public to use. The goal behind the 2021 OAA Contract Suite is to continue to encourage fair and balanced business relationships. These new versions were revised for compatibility with CCDC 2-2020 and to respond to evolving best practices and current approaches for architectural projects, both simple and complex.

Why Sunset Older Contract Versions?

As mentioned during the OAA Contracts 2021 Webinars, the OAA had established a nine-month transition period to allow time for clients and practices to become familiar with the new version and to rewrite any supplementary conditions. Provisions in the updated Contract Suite are intended to eliminate many of the supplementary conditions that have been proposed in the past. Notably, the new provisions incorporate comments and concerns received from clients—and their lawyers—through RFPs and round table discussions.

The OAA encourages members and their clients to get familiar with the latest versions. Visit the Documents and Publications Portal to download a contract and its corresponding Guide for a project, including:

- OAA 600-2021 (long-form contract between an OAA member and a client);

- OAA 800-2021 (short-form contract for use on less-complex projects); and

- OAA 900-2021 (standard subcontract between an OAA member and subconsultant, intended for use with a prime client contract like OAA 600 or OAA 800).
