The OAA has launched a new online tool for Intern Architects completing their Internship in Architecture Program (IAP) with the Association. The Ontario Practice Competency self-assessment portal marks a significant milestone in the support and development of the IAP in Ontario.

Designed for Intern Architects on their path toward licensure, the portal provides a comprehensive platform for self-assessment against the 10 key competencies essential for architectural practice in Ontario. The self-assessment forms are now accessible in the Ontario Practice Assessment tab by logging into the member portal. They are also available as 10 fillable PDFs on the OAA Website. 

By using the Ontario Practice Competency self-assessment portal, Intern Architects can evaluate and track these critical skills and knowledge areas. The portal not only streamlines the assessment process, but also serves as a dynamic educational tool, fostering continuous learning and development.

The portal’s personalized assessment modules enable progress to be benchmarked and outstanding tasks to be identified. It also integrates feedback mechanisms and resources tailored to support Intern Architects in addressing identified developmental needs, ensuring a robust pathway toward architectural licensure in Ontario.

In addition to its practical use, the portal reflects the OAA's commitment to leveraging technology in service of professional excellence and regulatory compliance. By facilitating transparent self-assessment and promoting ongoing professional development, the Association aims to bolster the competence and preparedness of its future architectural leaders.

The requirement for the Ontario Practice Competency self-assessment is currently in a transition period until December 31, 2024, after which it will be required of interns completing all their experience in the IAP.
