For 57 years, Canadian Architect has sponsored an annual national awards program, the only national awards that recognize projects in the design stage.

This year’s deadline for submissions is next Thursday, September 12, 2024.

Projects must be in the design stage, scheduled for construction, or under construction, but not substantially complete by September 12, 2024. All projects must be commissioned by a client with the intention to build the submitted proposal. All building types and concisely presented urban design schemes are eligible.

The Awards of Excellence are open to all Canadian architects and architectural graduates, and also welcome work in Canada by foreign architects (provided they have teamed with a Canadian firm).

Awards are given for architectural design excellence. Jurors will consider the scheme’s response to the client’s program, site, geographic and/or urban context. They will evaluate its physical organization, form, composition, building systems, concept, process, structure, materials, environmental features and/or demonstration of social awareness.

This year’s competition also includes the seventh annual Canadian Architect Photo Awards of Excellence, challenging photographers to showcase their best images of a Canadian building.

All winners will be published in Canadian Architect magazine’s December print and digital editions—our annual Awards of Excellence issue. They will also be featured in our national newsletter and online at CanadianArchitect.com/Awards.

Our jury includes architects Matthew Hickey (Two Row Architect, Six Nations, Toronto and Calgary), D’Arcy Jones (D’Arcy Jones Architects, Vancouver), and Andrea Wolff (ARCHITEM Wolff Shapiro Kuskowski architectes, Montreal). For the adjudication of the Photo Awards of Excellence, they will be joined by photographer Lisa Stinner-Kun (Winnipeg).
