Last month, the OAA responded to a provincial consultation regarding changes to the Ontario Building Code. These changes result from a pan-Canadian
Reconciliation Agreement on Construction Codes, which seeks to eliminate differences or variations in construction codes that serve as barriers to trade or investment.
Following extensive analysis from
the Sub-Committee on Building Codes & Regulation (SCOBCAR), the OAA entered a submission in response to more than 800 proposed changes. The Association also took the opportunity to caution the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing (MMAH) that the harmonization exercise must not distract from improving energy efficiency and responding to the climate crisis. Additional consultations will be taking place early next year.
