OAA licensed members can sign up for or renew access to the OAA’s free CSA Standards Access program by logging on to the member side of the OAA Website. It offers viewing access to all standards referenced in the National Building Code and the Ontario Building Code, as well as three other select standards, including CSA A460:19, Bird-Friendly Building Design.
“Every year, millions of birds die due to collisions with glass—those deaths are preventable,” explains John Robert Carley, FRAIC, and a board member of Fatal Light Awareness Program (FLAP) Canada. “CSA A460:19, compiled by industry and environmental experts, provides the blueprint for the design of bird-friendly buildings. This standard is an essential reference for municipal site plan approvals. Remember, a building isn’t ‘sustainable’ until it is bird-friendly.”
