The Canadian Architectural Certification Board (CACB) Board of Directors has announced the group supports the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. The UN Declaration establishes a universal framework for the survival, dignity, and well-being of Indigenous peoples and elaborates on existing human rights standards and fundamental freedoms as they apply to the specific situation of Indigenous peoples.
CACB develops and maintains the programs and standards for certification required for the practice of architecture in Canada. On its website, it says that by adopting the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, together with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada Calls to Action, it “joins in a symbolic and action-oriented journey toward justice and peace for Indigenous peoples, architectural communities, and future generations.”
The aims to support initiatives and identify appropriate actions to enhance programs and standards for the practice of architecture in Canada.
