The Land Sustains Us: Indigenous Perspectives on Development

As part of the update to the Mississauga Green Development Standards, the City of Mississauga and the Town of Caledon are hosting The Land Sustains Us: Indigenous Perspectives on Development.

Indigenous Peoples have perspectives about sustainability and development that need to be heard and acted on. On May 24, you are invited to join The Land Sustains Us, a virtual session with an Indigenous panel bringing their perspectives as People; Elders, Architects and Planners that will encourage resilient and sustainable development. Through this conversation, we will listen and consider an approach to development that considers the Land, Water, Environment and People - that which sustains us.

Speakers include:

-Miranda Jimmy - member of Thunderchild First Nation and Director of Reconciliation & Social Justice for the Ontario Professional Planners Institute
-Peter Schuler - Elder of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation
-Jessica Wakefield - band member of Kettle and Stony Point First Nation and Environmental Planner with SOAR Professional Services
-Erik Skouris - Anishinaabe Ojibwe, member of the Michipicoten First Nation, and registered with the Ontario Association of Architects
-Freedom Stone - Anishinaabekwe and Jamaican, and project lead and intern Architect with Smoke Architecture Inc.
