Each speaker will present their own unique perspective on the topic which will be followed by questions from the moderator and the audience to spark a lively discussion. More information on the topic is attached below. We are excited to introduce this year's panel of speakers:

Description:

“As globalized cities such as Toronto are continuously densifying to accommodate a growing population of immigrants and those who desire to live and work in the city, the current strategy of planners is to build up, build often, and build densely. Massive densification is primarily the first card played by cities as they actively engage the capital and dependent sources while accommodating the influx of people. This solution neglects the long-term consequences that putting too much pressure on a city’s infrastructure and resources may have on the social, mental, and physical health of the people. How can we find solutions to create a future, complete city, where density is redefined so it is more sustainable for the city’s infrastructure and accomodates for the needs of the people? This symposium will explore how design can be used to create a balance between density, and spatial comfort, so that the housing available is sufficient to allow individuals and families to live healthy and comfortable lives in the urban context.”

Elsa Lam: Editor-in-chief at Canadian Architect magazine
