Media Art’s Future, Present, and Past: Notes from the Field

As an art historian focused on art since the 1960s, Dr. Tina Rivers Ryan has become one of the leading voices shaping the public discourse around art and technology today. In this talk, the Buffalo AKG Museum curator, Artforum critic and active social-media presence will provide an overview of her recent and forthcoming exhibitions and publications, which together serve as the basis for her reflections on the state of the future, present and past of video and digital art.

Dr. Tina Rivers Ryan is Curator at the Buffalo AKG Art Museum and an internationally recognized expert in the history of media art, including video and digital art. She is also a regular contributor to Artforum and has written commissioned essays for many of the world’s leading museums, including The Met, Dia and the V&A. Dr. Ryan holds five degrees in art history, including a BA from Harvard and a PhD from Columbia. Her honours include an Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant and being named to Artnet’s 2022 Innovators List.

This event is part of the Daniels Faculty's Fall 2023 Public Program.
