We'll gather at the Victoria Park bandstand, located across the historic truss bridge from downtown on beautiful Roos Island. Margaret will provide some basic directions, before we all head off independently, or in small groups (as we choose) to observe and sketch and/or write some thoughtful words of things that we like. Sketches & words might capture aspects of our built and natural environment, or people or anything that might catch your interest. After one hour, we'll reassemble at the bandstand to share our drawings (we'll hang them on an impromptu clothes line) and say a few words about our drawings.
Things you might bring:
- A pen or pencil, plus an extra pen or a pencil sharpener.
- A small handful of Colours (pencils, pastels, watercolours, etc), but not absolutely necessary
- Paper
- Water to drink
- A sturdy bucket to carry your utensils and to sit on when you are drawing
- Or bring a folding chair or a stool, or whatever works for you!
This is an inclusive and accessible gathering. This activity will be wholly outdoors. People of all ages and sketching abilities are invited to join in. “Talk Your Walk with Pictures” is meant to encourage participants to really look.
”While you are looking, you might as well also listen, linger and think about what you see.” Jane Jacobs.
