This lecture is organized to commemorate Taymoore Balbaa's design and pedagogical legacy, but most importantly for Friends and Colleagues to grasp his presence one last time. Taymoore's passing from this world was so sudden and abrupt that it has left everyone in a state of disbelief.

Taymoore Balbaa holds a Master's in Architecture from the University of Waterloo and has earned prestigious national awards, including the Prix de Rome for Emerging Practitioners and the Young Architect Award (awarded by the Canada Council for the Arts and the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada). He also received the RAIC Medal for his graduate thesis. His educational background includes a Bachelor of Environmental Studies from Waterloo, and he studied architecture at Università Gabrielle D’Annunzio in Italy.

He was a licensed architect in both Canada (OAA) and the European Union (TEE) with a diverse portfolio, encompassing cultural centers, educational buildings, social housing, temporary structures, and urban revitalization projects. Before co-founding AXIA in 2010, he gained valuable experience at renowned architectural firms like Menis Arquitectos (Tenerife, Spain), KPMB Architects (Toronto, ON), Massimiliano Fuksas (Rome, Italy), HLW International (New York, NY), and contributed to the Parthenon Restoration Project in Athens, Greece in 1998.

For the past 17 years, Taymoore has been an esteemed educator, teaching architecture and design at both the graduate and undergraduate levels at the University of Waterloo, University of Toronto, and TMU’s Creative School where he held the position of Associate Professor at the School of Interior Design (RSID) at TMU.

Taymoore has left a lasting imprint on the field of architecture in Canada and beyond. His mentoring and teaching has shaped several talented young architects and educators. He has left us with inspiring projects including the celebrated Aga Khan Pavilion and Garden in Edmonton.
