Antarctica is a contested territory that conceals resources and scientific data crucial to inform future environmental policies. The continent is an indispensable resource for global warming research, and hence human survival. And yet, the continent is largely neglected by the global community.
Curated by
UNLESS, an architect-led, non-profit agency devoted to interdisciplinary research on extreme environments threatened by the planetary crisis, this exhibition draws on the collective efforts of more than 150 international scientists, architects and artists to innovatively lay out Antarctica’s unique challenges and opportunities. Their multidisciplinary work assists in documenting, charting and clarifying Antarctica’s complex condition, from its unique geography and unparalleled scientific potential to its contemporary geopolitical significance, experimental governance system, and extreme inhabitation model. Ultimately, UNLESS’ goal is to broadcast knowledge, share data, provoke change, and mobilize future generations to undertake an “Antarctic resolution” — the global democratization of Antarctic infrastructure and research.
The opening will also include a talk by UNLESS founder and architect, and the exhibition curator, Giulia Foscari, moderated by Dean Juan Du of the Daniels Faculty, a contributor to the Antarctic Resolution publication, and the director of Polar Lab Hong Kong.
