1.5 ConEd Learning Hours
8:30 a.m. ‐ 10:00 a.m.
The More Homes Built Faster Act mandated all municipalities in Ontario to create as‐of‐right policies for accessory dwelling units—a second house on every lot! Some municipalities already had policies in place, and some created new policies. Some municipalities have good bylaws, and some have bad ones. Some municipalities are going to positively impact Ontario’s housing supply constraint, and some are going to continue to pander to NIMBYs. Learn about different bylaws in various municipalities and explore design solutions allowing for rental and multi‐generational opportunities in Ontario’s established residential neighbourhoods. This session will also explore OBC pitfalls that architects need to be aware of for existing and slab‐on‐grade construction, and see examples of rear‐yard accessory dwelling units (ADUs) from across Ontario.
