Masonry Tolerances, From Production to Installation

Hosted by Brampton Brick Ltd.

1 ConEd Learning hour

12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.

This session explores specific unit tolerances for manufactured clay or concrete products. It reviews
construction tolerances for a masonry wall assembly and discusses construction issues not covered by
the CSA. Led by Mike Kriesel, participants will have the opportunity to view common aesthetics concerns
in masonry walls and review temperature tolerances in masonry wall construction.

Learning Objectives

  1. Learn the basic tolerances for masonry units, both clay and concrete manufactured products.
  2. Be able to assess workmanship and/or overall quality of a masonry wall assembly. Determine what
could potentially pass or fail on a job site inspection when compared to the tolerances in the standard.
  3. Gain a better understanding of what aesthetic tolerances are for masonry—both the units and the
    assembly.
  4. Learn the acceptable temperature ranges for both cold weather and hot weather construction—what
to do (and not to do) when building a masonry wall assembly.
