Learn about the design, planning, and construction process of ‘Jones Multi‐Unit,’ a project by AAmp Studio. Discover the strategies employed by AAmp—from concept to construction—to help realize the project. Gain insight into how the project addresses the challenges of achieving gentle density while respecting community memory and neighbourhood fabric, in an effort to foster a conversation around architectural interventions that have the potential to contribute positively to community character.
Learning Objectives
1. Gain insights into how the Jones Multi‐Unit project balances conservation with a contemporary addition, integrating community history into the architectural narrative.
2. Explore effective strategies for increasing density while considering neighbourhood character and community memory, fostering a balanced approach that respects both architectural innovation and historical preservation.

Anne‐Marie Armstrong, AIA, MRAIC, Founding Principal
AAmp Studio
Anne‐Marie Armstrong is an architect and educator. She is a co‐founder and principal of AAmp Studio, and an assistant professor, teaching stream at University of Toronto’s Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design. Anne‐Marie holds a Master of Architecture from Yale University, where she studied on a Fulbright Scholarship, and an Honours Bachelor of Architectural Studies from the University of Waterloo. She is a registered architect in California and Ontario. Anne‐Marie is a founding member of BAIDA and is on the Board of Directors of People for Education.
