Since its creation in 2017, this powerful online course has been highly regarded for its impact in helping members gain a deeper understanding of Indigenous culture and their relationship with the land.
The Path: Your Journey Through Indigenous Canada is a series of six online modules created by a majority Indigenous-owned company and has been developed with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis advisors and reviewers. This course will introduce you to First Nations, Inuit, and Métis — the three Indigenous peoples recognized in the Canadian constitution. Topics include the cultural and historical differences between First Nations, Inuit, and Métis; the evolution of the relationship between Canada and Indigenous people from pre-contact to today; stories of rights, reconciliation and resilience; ways to increase your ‘Indigenous Quotient’ as you strengthen relationships with Indigenous peoples.
This updated course features 25% more content and an enhanced interactive format with plenty of engagement opportunities and new material, including lessons on land acknowledgements, unmarked graves, 'pretendians', urban Indigenous realities, and Canada's UNDRIP Act.
The online course is interactive, includes videos, text, exercises and knowledge assessment questions. It is available in English or French and is the only course of its kind to focus in equal depth on all three Indigenous peoples: First Nations, Inuit and Métis.
The course is on-demand and takes approximately 6 hours to complete with a certificate provided upon successful completion.
