Massive Passive: Innovations in Affordable Housing through Mass Timber Passive House Construction

TIME: 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM

Session Abstract:
Leveraging the evolution of design-build construction for a Six-Storey Mass-Timber Passive House, funding from Rapid Housing Initiative gave City Housing Hamilton opportunity to continue their mission of supporting the diverse needs of their communities whilst demonstrating the construction efficiencies of mass timber prefabrication with a high-performance building envelope.

Learning Outcomes:
• Identify project delivery challenges and solutions to meet the accelerated timeline of the Rapid Housing Initiative, while also delivering Passive House performance, and the precision & coordination of Mass Timber prefabrication
• Recall specific processes and tool implementation through design & construction to reduce risks to timeline and energy efficiency goals
• Understand the role of mass timber in delivering these outcomes, and best practices for incorporating Passive House principles into Mass-Timber projects
• Discuss aims for continued collaboration with industry partners, and iterative design-build construction to accelerate the delivery of Affordable Housing through Mass Timber Passive House Design
