GlassCan: Lunch and Learn

GlassCan is proud to offer lunch and learn sessions either virtually or in-person (or a combination thereof) that provide learning opportunities in a relaxed, interesting, and informative manner on a variety of topics related to the building envelope industry. All of our lunch and learn sessions qualify for OAA structured learning credits.

All of our lunch and learns include:
-an interesting and informative 45 minute presentation followed by time for a Q&A session
-related product samples for a hands-on experience a
-full lunch that takes dietary needs and preferences into consideration
-a certificate of completion

Various course description:

GlassCan: high performance architectural glass. Glass Glass Glass.

This presentation covers everything that you ever wanted to know about glass! We begin with the history of glass and move towards modern day production process, and fabrication techniques. We'll provide an overview of the different types of coatings including the differences between soft (sputtered) coated glass products along with their pyrolytic counterparts. We will also look at benchmark performance criteria, various types of makeups, different types of laminated interlayers, jumbo glass, and the options for safety glass. We will also explore how to create different aesthetics with glass including sandblasting, acid etching, and printing. We'll also discuss potential problems faced by the designer when using fabricated architectural glass products.

LARCORE BY ALUCOIL: aluminum honeycomb panels larcore by Alucoil aluminum honeycomb panels.
An introduction to all aluminum honeycomb panel systems. A technology developed over 30 years ago, the presentation explores the unique benefits and features as well as the technology behind this advance panel systems for facade and other architectural applications. These lightweight, extremely rigid, non-combustible rated panels could make for an excellent choice in your next architectural panel project.

GlassCan product overview: aluminum honeycomb panels, railing systems, glass. GlassCan Overview.
Explore the role of a manufacturer’s representative and learn how we can help support your team throughout the life cycle of your next commercial or residential building project. Develop an understanding of what sets our vendors apart from the rest including their value-add services, and capabilities. Learn about our products by diving into exciting case studies, and let our project gallery inspire your next great design.

Q-railing Guardrails: Designing Guards for Building Projects

This presentation will cover all aspects of handrails and guardrails from full glass balustrades, to component-based baluster systems, to welded aluminum systems. We will contrast and compare the features and benefits of each as it relates to aesthetics, performance, sourcing and installation. Finally we touch upon testing, performance and building codes in relation to guard rails. This presentation will enable you to better understand common terminology including baluster, balustrade, guard, line load, point load, infill, wet glaze, and dry glaze. We will also review the most common considerations that must be made in order to comply with Ontario building codes, and also explore the external factors that contribute to a safe balustrade including mounting substrate, anchors, wind-loads etc.

GlassCan: Designing high performance building facades.
This presentation will dive into the materials that work together in order to create next generation high performance building facades including high performance architectural glass (thermal spacers, infills, coatings, VIG),and thermally broken curtain wall systems. We will also take a look at how the size of building materials such as glass and aluminum factors into the equation. The presentation will enable you to identify the individual components of both an insulated glass unit and a vacuum insulated glass unit and how they each affect both performance and aesthetics, better understand the differences between an IGU and a VIG, and visually identify a thermally broken curtain wall system when looking at a crosssection sample. You will also leave with an understanding of how energy codes and performance requirements are driving innovation.
