Course description:
Advancements in air barrier technology and higher accountability for indoor air quality, energy efficiency and fire protection lead to increasingly complex design and construction requirements. This course reviews technology options and critical design and installation practices of exterior wall assemblies to ensure long term stability, code compliance, and occupant health, safety, and welfare.
Learning objectives:
• Why is an Air Barrier Important?
• What happens when uncontrolled air leakage moves through the wall assembly?
• The effects of moisture and wind washing behind the air barrier
• The advantages of fully adhered air barriers
• Wall assembly design: Vapour Permeable or Non-Vapour Permeable?
This presentation is a one-hour discussion and qualifies for continuing education credit as recognized by the Ontario Association of Architects.
