Specifying Performance Metal Ceilings Course

Time: 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM ET

This course is designed to provide knowledge and understanding of how Specifying Performance Metal Ceilings can enhance the experience for the building user. The program will introduce the purpose of ceilings, the different materials available and why metal may be more favorable in terms of performance, esthetics and sustainability. Various ceiling options and their corresponding components will be compared and discussed, focusing on the types of environments they are typically specified in and why. The course then delves into enhancing the experience of the building user through offerings such as acoustic support, service and lighting integrations along with finishes which contribute to esthetic and performance.

HSW Justification Ceilings play a key role into how users interact with the space. Metal as a material for ceilings provides many benefits for the occupants of the building. Metal is a robust material which has a life expectancy in excess of 25 years. Unlike other materials it does not rot, crack or absorb moisture making it a safer material choice for those using the space.

Coatings play a major part in metal ceilings. They are predominantly finished with Polyester Powder Coating (PPC) which contains Zero VOC. This is both good for the environment and helps to maintain the quality of indoor air which directly affects the health of the building user. With the addition of performance finishes such as antimicrobial coating the occupants are further offered long-lasting protection against bacteria, germs and fungi.
Finally, soundscape can be an important factor which affects the welfare of the building user. Metal ceilings also provide performance in terms of acoustic support. It can help control unwanted noise making it considerably more comfortable for the user to communicate effectively with little distraction or unwanted interference which encourage social interaction and elevates the human experience.

By the end of this presentation, attendees should be able to achieve the following objectives:
1. Given a list of material options, assess the different materials available for ceilings and understand the benefits of choosing metal over the other options.
2. Using the information provided on the different metal ceiling types, investigate the various systems available and understand where it would be typically used and why.
3. Given a list of service integration options, identify how thermal comfort, lighting and acoustics can optimize the user experience.
4. Review the list of finishes provided and understand how finishes can play a role in the users experience of their environment.
5. Explore various uses of ceilings that can enhance operational wayfinding which can help facilitate human traffic flow / social distancing.
