Securing the Foundation: Tips & Tricks for Building a Cyber Resilient Organization

Session Abstract:

While the shift to being more digitally focused and adoption of new technology comes with benefits such as greater operational efficiency, it also introduces additional and unique risks, perhaps not previously considered for businesses. The Cyber Risk and Insurance teams from Hub International will provide an update on the threat environment, unique risks faced by architects & engineers and share strategies and resources for building cyber resiliency within your organizations.

  • Risks faced by architectural and engineering firms and why they may be a target for threat actor.
  • Why aligning to a known information security framework can greatly reduce risk.
  • Where to invest time & money to see the most impactful results.

 

Targeted Audience:
This session is for those working in the architecture profession, including firm owners, managers, and IT professionals. It will address the unique cyber risks the architecture profession faces and provide insights on strengthening cybersecurity, aligning with best practices, and prioritizing resources to protect your business from evolving threats.

 

About the Speakers:

Jack Bottomley, CISSP: Senior Risk Consultant is a cybersecurity risk management professional with a background of assessing and advising organizations of all sizes and industry verticals to develop and implement cybersecurity programs. As a former Cyber Insurance Underwriter in the Lloyd’s of London market, Jack saw firsthand the scale and impact of cybersecurity incidents across Europe and North America. When Ransomware shook the insurance market, Jack was on the front lines advising clients of the risk, best practices to prevent an incident, and measures to recover when what seemed like the inevitable occurred. Jack transitioned from risk transfer to mitigation, joining KPMG as a cyber risk advisory consultant. He gained experience developing and implementing cybersecurity risk management programs for clients, including conducting assessments against industry frameworks such as the NIST CSF, and CIS Implementation Tiers, and developing roadmaps to maturity. Where necessary, Jack engaged in projects to implement policies and processes to support organizational risk management and worked closely with transformation teams engaged in technology change projects.

Laura Ferri Personal Insurance Group - Business Development Manager: Laura Ferri spearheads the Personal Insurance Groups for the Ontario and Ontario National divisions at HUB International Ontario. Laura’s acts as a liaison between the HUB Ontario team & the group programs, managing communications with all partners to ensure growth opportunity & positive client experience.  Laura joined the insurance industry in 2019, after a long career in the Social Service & Educational Sector, specializing in behaviour management & autism spectrum disorder. She worked her way up through the personal insurance segment, gaining experience in a variety of roles in service and sales. Throughout her career in insurance, she attained her RIBO license as well as CAIB Honours designation, showcasing a depth of understanding in the insurance and brokerage realm. Laura has strong interpersonal & organizational skills, with a passion for connecting people. She enjoys being involved in her personal and professional communities, and networking them together to build out these relationships for a truly rounded approach. Laura resides in Hamilton and enjoys hiking the numerous waterfall trails in the surrounding area or participating in a community event. She is also an ambassador for members of the Burlington Chamber of Commerce, stretching her reach across both communities.
