Insurance 101

This event is specifically directed at architects who may NOT have attended a previous “Insurance 101” and are unfamiliar with insurance in general, professional liability insurance and / or the mandatory professional liability insurance provided to Ontario architects by Pro-Demnity Insurance Company. Some of the content of this program will repeat material delivered to Ontario architects at previous events across the province. However this presentation does include new information and may be of value to previous attendees who would like a refresher.

Most of us know there is a range of types of insurance that we may purchase including the Professional Liability Insurance provided by Pro-Demnity; however, many of us have never had the opportunity to learn much about insurance, although it is an important aspect of our businesses.

The program will include an introduction and brief history of insurance and discussion of the key issues and terms that an architect in practice needs to understand to help be conversant about insurance in general. This will be followed by a more detailed discussion about Professional Liability Insurance specifically including policy features and the Pro-Demnity program.

Presenters:

Stephen White has had a long career in the insurance industry in The UK and in Canada. He has assisted Pro-Demnity in the preparation and delivery of a number of Continuing Education programs across Ontario. Stephen is presently principal of his own consulting firm, “Somerset Insurance Consulting. He also teaches insurance related subjects for the insurance industry.
