Indigenous Engagement Training Part 2: Moving beyond awareness to implementing the TRC Calls to Action

Time: 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM EDT

This webinar based workshop will be hosted by: Michael Etherington.

Michael will be supported by Terence Radford, OALA member and Liat Margolis, Director, Landscape Architecture program at the Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design at the University of Toronto.

Background:
The workshop will build on the introductory knowledge from the prior Indigenous Cultural Awareness Session to discuss meaningful engagement and partnerships with First Nations within Ontario. This second session ensures the content is in alignment with the TRC Calls to Action. In the breakout sessions, participants will provide feedback on how to best move beyond solely the legal procedure of Duty to Consult and critically think about cultural transformation in the journey of reconciliation.

Objective:
Workshop participants will deepen their understanding of Indigenous Cultural Awareness and begin moving towards establishing appropriate skills, knowledge, attitude and values to meaningful Indigenous Engagement and learn about consultant vs. engagement with real life examples on how to incorporate this into the process of projects.

Outcomes:
Based on the findings of the workshop, participants will receive a list of Terms of Reference as well as a resource document to support landscape architects to incorporate the requirements of the TRC in their specific work portfolios.

Pre-requisites:
Participants will be expected to have taken an introduction course on issues with Truth & Reconciliation Commission and be aware of the findings. The TRC workshop from 2019 is recommended but other similar introductory courses are also acceptable. Participants are also encouraged to read the CSLA Statement on Reconciliation prior to the workshop.

Limited enrollment:
There will be a maximum of 80 participants.

Fee:
$70.00 + HST. Registration closes on Sunday, August 1.

***OALA Members may claim 3 CE Credits for attendance at the event.
