From September 28 to October 8 2017, step inside a world where crickets can combat global hunger, medical supplies are 3D-printed in outer space, drones deliver blood to remote communities, and shipping containers are the future of farming.

Change the world by design. EDIT is a 150,000-square- foot immersive experience that envisions a world transformed by unparalleled design, innovation and technology solutions. Produced by Design Exchange, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), this groundbreaking inaugural festival will ignite conversations through an array of curated exhibits, compelling talks, and inspiring installations.

• lecture: EDIT Environmental Keynote: David Suzuki 

Renowned scientist, environmentalist and broadcaster - and national treasure - David Suzuki delivers a pivotal talk and sits down for a Q&A on how humans need to sustainable co-exist with the earth.

• lecture: EDIT Curator Keynote: Carlo Ratti 

How do we design the city of the future? Carlo Ratti, curator of EDIT's Shelter + Cities exhibition, explores how we can bring nature back into urban areas from the home to the metropolis. 

• EDIT Panel: The Future of the Resilient City

By 2050, 70% of the world's population will live in cities. How can we create urban centres that sustain all of us? This panel discussion shows how we can hack the city, turning it into a place that provides sustenance while we bolster its sustainability.

• lecture:  UNDP Social Good Summit: Indigenous Housing Roundtable  

There have been many great ideas and solutions for indigenous housing but the real challenge is implementation. The roundtable will look at the various proposals for housing solutions for indigenous communities and discuss how to actually move on these initiatives.

• lecture: World Architecture Day Series - POV: Brigitte Shim and Siamak Hariri

EDIT's World Architecture Day series brings together a collection of local and international architects to speak about their practice. Shim-Sutcliffe world with the Mnjinkaning Fish fence Circle on a bridge and gathering place that marks the spot  at the Narrows between Lake Couchiching and Lake Simcoe where First Nations have gathered for sacred ceremonies for many generations. Complimenting Shim, Siamak Hariri will discuss how we create meaningful spaces and explore what it means to inhabit thoughtful places and the future of architecture with a focus on his recent Bahai temple in Chile.

 

• World Architecture Day Series - POV: Heather Dubbeldam and Andrew Grant 

EDIT's World Architecture Day series brings together a collection of local and international architects to speak about their practice. Prix de Rome winner Heather Dubbeldam will explore the latest in eco-friendly design, from buildings to cities. Andrew Grant, from Grant Associates, the architecture firm behind Singapore's Gardens by the Bay project, will discuss how nature and technology can come together in radically new ways to improve our urban spaces.

• lecture: EDIT Panel: Transforming our Public Spaces 

 Join Derek Goring, Daniel Jongtien, Noortje Heege and Brad Keast as they discuss the future of urban planning. Derek Goring is responsible for leading the development project for East Harbour, formerly the Unilever Soap Factory. Goring, in conversation with dutch architect Heege from Benthem Crouwel, and Osmington's Bread Keast will discuss the future of our cities and public spaces. 

• lecture: into the Culture Cave

Join EDIT for the launch of Jorn Weisbrodt's new book Into the Culture Cave: Generator of Art and Community, emotions and Ideas. This panel discussion will be informed by Weisbrodt's book, which outlines the immense production challenges Luminato undertook at the Hearn generating station in 2016. With fellow panelists Anthony Sargent (CEO, Luminato), Clyde Wagner (Executive Producer, Luminato), Jack Diamond (Principal at Diamond Schmitt Architects), and November Paynter (Director of Programs, MOCA) this talk will use Weisbrodt's new book as a jumping off point to discuss his idea of the "Culture Cave" and how Toronto's arts institutions are engaging with idle urban spaces. A book signing will follow this talk in the EDIT X Library on the 4th floor.

• lecture: EDIT Educate Keynote: Odile Decq

French architect Odile Decq, recipient of the 2017 Jane Drew prize, is known for both her goth-like appearance and her dramatic architecture, including the Musuem of Conetmporary Art in Rome, the restaurant for Paris' Opera Garnier and FRAC Bretagne, Decq is also founder of Confluence, a new school of architecture in Lyon that merges various disciplines and points to the future of the practice.

• lecture: EDIT Social Housing Panel: The Future of Housing - (Beautiful) Housing is a Human Right

Can affordable housing be beautiful? This round table features the designers, thinkers and organizations creating sustainable, innovative and pride-inducing housing for the most vulnerable, from war veterans and the homeless to immigrants and the working class. Panelists include Dean Goodman of Eva's Phoenix, Jay Pitter co-author of Subdivided: City-Building in an Age of Hyper-Diversity, and  Remo Agostino of Daniels Corp
