Dinosaurs and Architecture by Farzam Mohajer

I took up watercolour this past year and to practice I thought to draw a few buildings. I prefer drawings/photos of buildings being inhabited but I didn’t want to faff around drawing tiny people in watercolour so I put in dinosaurs instead. It is supposed to be light, fun, and whimsical, but depending on one’s mood it can have a tinge of tragedy as well, evoking shades of extinction which we as a species seem to be exploring with ever increasing success.

I think architecture is a profession that suffers greatly when it exists in a vacuum of ideas. I remember a film maker who once said “a movie based on a movie is a terrible thing”. That really struck me because the same can be true of architecture to a certain extent. For architects and designers, sketching can inspire and open up worlds and rabbit holes which are well beyond our profession, which will in the end breathe new life into it.
