You’re the Successor of an Architectural Practice – Here’s How To Optimize Your Insurance

During this year’s OAA Virtual Conference in May, the online sessions offered were well-received and provided insights into a variety of topics. The OAA would like to remind members that the 2021 OAA Virtual Sessions are now available on YouTube. This includes the core Continuing Education learning offered at Conference as well as the Sponsored Sessions and Virtual Tours. All available sessions are on the OAA YouTube channel organized in the OAA Virtual Conference Week 2021 playlist. We encourage you to explore these sessions as a suite of on-demand offerings. These sessions are considered unstructured hours when viewed in this format.

At this time, we’d like to spotlight a session offered by one of our generous Conference sponsors. To view the full session, please click here.

If you’ve recently taken over an architectural practice, you’ve likely spent years planning with the previous owner and meeting with lawyers, accountants, tax experts, financial planners, and even change management consultants.

There are a number of critical decisions to make as you move from worker to owner — while keeping the business running smoothly — and insurance is no different.

This valuable session with Mumby, a Division of HUB Ontario, explores how to map your insurance needs and optimize your choices to support your growing business.

The session digs into a case study with a fictional architect, Zara, who is the next in line to succeed a well-established 40-year architectural practice. In transitioning from employee to Principal, Zara finds the insurance decisions overwhelming and confusing. You’ll learn how Zara transforms the confusion into confidence as she takes control to ensure the practice continues to thrive.

This session helps viewers:

  • Learn about some of the biggest challenges Architect Principals face when it comes to their personal and corporate insurance;
  • Learn how insurance can support staff retention in a competitive marketplace;
  • Discover how to grow their practices with the right insurance and employee benefits; and
  • Develop a better understanding of growth management and employee management for the practice.

Mumby, a Division of HUB Ontario, is a full-service brokerage and a long-time partner of the Ontario Association of Architects. Mumby is committed to educating all members about the nuances of insurance so architectural professionals can focus on running their firms, supporting employees, and protecting what matters most to their businesses.
