The annual OAA Awards program was established in 1988 and offers Ontario architects, students and interns an opportunity to showcase their best work and increase public appreciation of the services provided by the architectural profession. 

The Awards highlights the best in architectural design and innovation by Ontario Architects. Winners of the OAA Awards include both emerging talent and some of the provinces' most established architecture practices. Award recipients are honoured at the annual Celebration of Excellence Awards Ceremony that takes place in May. 

As the OAA is now accepting Entries for the 2017 OAA Awards, this mini-blOAAg series on “Spotlight on OAA Awards” will highlight the various categories of awards given by the OAA annually.

Spotlight on Concepts Award! 

Concepts awards is given by the OAA to recognize clarity and uniqueness of expression of an architectural idea as well as to promote involvement of individuals in the areas of design presentation, art and other design related endeavors. 

The best part of this award is that anyone in the field of architecture in Ontario can submit. You can be an architecture student, or OAA registered intern architect with a great concept for light fixtures, you can apply for the Concepts Awards for a chance to be recognized. See below for specific eligibility and award criteria. 

Eligibility
1- Submissions must have been completed since 2012. 
2- A maximum of four submissions from any one practice or individual will be accepted.
3- Submission could include projects that are built/unbuilt: objects, furniture, sculpture, light fixtures, utensils; 
4- OR a project that is proposed to be built - theoretical buildings, cityscapes, planning proposals; may be for a client, a specific site, or a competition.
5- Architects, retired, life and honorary members, associates, Licensed Technologist OAA, OAA intern architects, students at the six Ontario
Schools of Architecture, Ontario Syllabus students and OAA practices are all eligible. Projects of any size will be considered for awards. 
6- Each submission must be from and by the author(s).

Award Criteria
The Jury will evaluate each submission on:

1- Clarity, accuracy, appropriateness and aesthetic quality of the presentation
2- Uniqueness and strength of the idea
3- Relevance to the idea of architecture

Submissions, including text and imagery, will be judged on the quality of concept and presentation. Text and imagery must be well organized, composed and executed. Entries must demonstrate mastery of presentation, design and fabrication

- organize well
- avoid clutter
- keep text large and clear enough to read
