Designed in 1919 and opened in 1924, this historic Neoclassical stadium hosted the 3rd Pan American Games in 1959. Part of the larger North American City Beautiful Movement, the stadium's doric colonnade and Greco-Roman inspired structure served as both a venue for large events and a memorial to fallen soldiers.
Following a controversial 2003 renovation where much of the interior was demolished and reconfigured, Soldier Field was delisted as a National Historic Landmark. The renovation received the 2004 design excellence award by the American Institute of Architects.
