At the 2021 Annual General Meeting (AGM) in June, the Association honoured its newest Members of Long Standing—individuals who have reached the milestone of 50 years of membership with the OAA as part of Ontario’s architecture profession. Among the recipients this year was Marcus Scoler.
In 1965, shortly after completing his education at McGill University, Scoler joined L’Ordre des Architectes du Québec (OAQ) and established his own practice in Montreal. He joined with two architects in 1970 to form the partnership of Reich Schertzer & Scoler. That same year, he joined the OAA. The success of the firm enabled Scoler to open a Toronto office of Reich, Schertzer, Scoler & Gluck in 1977.

Three years later, he and Thomas Gluck formed a new partnership—Scoler & Gluck Architects. In 1994, came the partnership of Scoler Lee & Associates Architects Inc. Now, he is a senior partner at Scoler, Lee, Borenstein & Associates Architects Inc, which was formed in 2018.

Scoler’s commissions include power and manufacturing plants, warehouse facilities, warehouses, shopping centres, and office developments. His projects are located in most Canadian provinces as well as in the United States. He has also designed a hydro-electric project in Malaysia and prepared preliminary drawings for parliament buildings in Nigeria.
Scoler is particularly proud of having received the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) Gold Medal in 2018 for Leaside Village. A member of architecture associations in Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Quebec, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New York State, and Florida, he continues to practise at the age of 82.
