The four five-storey loft buildings are sited at the intersection of north-south and east-west cross-axes. The four lofts are organized vertically over a common two-storey base called the Collaboration Plaza, a primary communal space. The design connects to Lake Michigan, the Chicago skyline and campus, with views on all sides. The siting responds to the arc of an existing path and the edge of the east playing field. As part of Northwestern’s commitment to energy efficiency, the design is targeted to achieve Platinum under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program.

The design reinforces the importance of continued investment in architectural excellence in education.
