The new architecture honours the legacy of the Mendel with an accessible, flexible platform for community gathering through all seasons and supports diverse perspectives on art and culture in our time. Conceived as a direction-setting museum, it is a testament to the power of alignment: between architectural excellence and a visionary client; between the federal and civic governments and private donors. A new typology for placemaking in Saskatoon, the open, transparent and generously scaled galleries and public realm prioritize civic participation and open, continuous dialogue with Indigenous artists and communities. The entire gallery is designed to inspire transformative experiences to connect art, people and place.
