The Boulevard Club West Wing Replacement is a new two-storey addition to the historic Boulevard Club on Toronto’s western waterfront. The large and windowless volumes of the challenging program are organized elegantly and naturally on a very tight site to seamlessly extend the circulation of the existing building and to create a 21st century addition to the iconic sculptural roof composition of the existing early and mid-20th-century roofs. The roof starts low on the east to connect gently to the historic club house and then rises with a flowing gesture to the west over the second-floor badminton courts.
Jury Comments
The jury felt this new addition “holds its own” within a complex site of buildings of very different eras – its strong form responding aptly to the program while resolving the complex into a more coherent composition.
