Reminder about Changes to the Internship in Architecture Program (IAP)

Third Edition Sunsets at the End of June

As of July 1, 2022, the Fourth Edition of the Internship in Architecture Program (IAP) will be fully implemented. All new and existing Intern Architects and Student Associates will be enrolled or transferred to this edition and its updated requirements.

Intern Architects enrolled in the Third Edition have until June 30 to complete the program requirements for this edition of the IAP. If Intern Architects are unable to complete the Third Edition requirements by this date, they will be automatically transferred on July 1 to the new Fourth Edition and be required to complete the updated requirements.

The Fourth Edition IAP launched on January 1, 2021, which began the transition period to the full implementation set to occur on July 1, 2022.

Important Information and Key Dates

January 1, 2021

The 4th edition of the IAP (17 experience categories) was initiated.

June 30, 2022

The 3rd edition of the IAP (15 experience categories) will conclude.

January 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022

The transition period between the 3rd and 4th edition of the IAP.

July 1, 2022 onward

All Intern Architects and Student Associates must complete the experience requirements of the 4th edition of the IAP.

Attention: Intern Architects in the 3rd edition of the IAP

June 30, 2022

Deadline to submit experience to the OAA for review and approval under the 3rd edition of the IAP.

Note: There are no exceptions/extensions granted to the June 30, 2022 deadline.

 
Submission of experience under the 3rd edition of the IAP (15 experience categories)
When preparing experience via the online Canadian Experience Record Book (CERB) platform, there are several review steps required prior to submission to the OAA. All the review steps required by the Intern Architect, Supervising Architect, and Mentor must be completed prior to June 30, 2022 deadline for consideration under the 3rd edition of the IAP. The table below sets out the procedural details.

Experience submissions under review by Supervising Architect or Mentor by end of day June 30, 2022

Not eligible for consideration under the 3rd edition of the IAP.

Action: Intern Architects must redocument the experience under the 4th edition of the IAP.

Submission of experience to the OAA on/before June 30, 2022

Experience documented under the 3rd edition of the IAP will be considered for review and approval by the OAA.

Submission of experience to the OAA on/after July 1, 2022

Experience must be documented under the 4th edition of the IAP for review and approval by the OAA.
