Public Consultation: Proposed Changes to the 2025 National Model Codes

The Canadian Board for Harmonized Construction Codes (CBHCC) has opened the public consultation of proposed technical changes for the 2025 National Model Codes. The review runs until Monday, June 22, 2026—you can click here to participate.

The proposed updates affect the National Building Code of Canada (NBC), National Energy Code of Canada for Buildings (NECB), and National Plumbing Code of Canada (NPC). Areas under review include accessibility, automatic sprinkler systems, energy efficiency for houses, fire protection, modular construction, plumbing materials and equipment, airtightness and HVAC (NECB), and drainage systems (NPC).

The public review allows stakeholders to examine each proposed change and provide comments on whether it should be approved, revised, or withdrawn. Following the review period, all comments will be analyzed, and recommendations will be developed for CBHCC decision‑making.
